スーパーコンピューターを大便器の設計に使う研究に、国内最大手のTOTO(北九州市)が取り組んでいる。
水の流れをシミュレーションで精度よく再現し、より少ない水で、
汚れを残しにくい便器のかたちを追い求めるためだ。
大便を流すのに必要な水量は2012 年の製品で3 .8L。
02年の8リットルから半減した。急速な進歩を支えたのが、
独自のソフトで水の流れを再現するシミュレーション技術。
勘と経験に頼ってきた実験や試作の回数を減らし、
