ハードディスクエラーで大変な思いをしました。
日曜日にテキスト入力しなければならない作業がたくさんあり、
土曜日の昼頃下準備をしていたところ、レインボーカーソルが回り出しました。

iMacのハードディスクは本体をスリム化していることもあって、
裏側から取り外すことは出来ず、前面の液晶パネルを外して交換する必要があります。
それでハードディスク交換に慣れていないと作業が難しいのです。
その上、自分は知らなかったのですが、
iMacのハードディスクには温度センサーがあり、
それに対応しているハードディスクをディフォルトでなくとも選択しないとなりません。
その二重の意味で簡単ではないということです。
さらに、ハードディスク交換をすると、
データは初期化されますのでまっさらになります。
それから再インストールの作業ですが、
私はMacOSの10.6.8を使っていますので再インストールすべきデータは
LAN上のOSXServer経由のUSBハードディスクにバックアップがありますから
それを使い復旧します。
私が使っているOSXServerはハードディスクが二個ありタイプで
容量は各々500で1TBです。これにパーティションを切らず、
（いくらパーティションを切ったところで物理的には同じハードディスクなので）
データのバックアップを取ろうとしましたが、考えてみれば復旧するには、
OSXServerに接続しなければなりません。
その際にはOSXServerに接続するための設定が必要になり、手間がかかりますので、
独立して後でクライアントのiMacに直接接続出来るUSBハードディスクが便利なわけです。
そう考えたのが今回役に立ちそうです。
いくらパソコンに詳しいと言っても手に負えない部分が必ず出てきます。
そのためにも専門職、専門家の玄人と付き合っておくのが必要と考えます。
また、さらに予備データの件。
既存データはレインボーカーソルが頻発し、書き込みエラーはあるものの、
全く読めないわけではないので、玄蔵GW3.5AA-SU2/MBにいれてもらいました。
ハードディスク交換費用自体は¥3万弱で、あとは実費でお願いしました。
ここからは先は自分でシステムの復元をしなければなりません。

もし、配慮がないパソコンメーカーなら単層のハードディスクだけ入ればよい。

これも私が知らなかったことでしたが、
ハードディスクには温度センサーがあり、ピン数も指定されています。
そのハードディスクの在庫がないと急な交換に対応できなかったそうです。
たまたま私がお願いしたときにSeagateの合うハードディスクがあったので助かりました。
